Shoulder pain

Shoulder pain can stem from various sources like frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injuries, or tendonitis—a broad spectrum of issues. Some respond well to manual therapy and tailored exercises, while others require a different approach. In fact, shoulder complaints make up about 12% of our chiropractic workload [2].

Our first step is pinpointing what triggered the pain—was it a specific injury or did it develop gradually?

Next, a thorough physical examination helps us identify the root cause: whether it originates from the shoulder itself or if it’s referred pain from the neck. Understanding this guides us in creating the most effective treatment plan tailored to your needs.

After a thorough examination, our treatment approach will be tailored to your specific needs. Addressing neck issues may be necessary, alongside crucial techniques to mobilise the shoulder. We often recommend exercises aimed at improving shoulder mobility and muscle strength, which can be highly effective.

For some shoulder problems, acupuncture techniques can also provide relief [3] [4] [5] [6]. Typically, we combine various treatment methods to achieve the best outcomes [7] [8]. While there’s solid research supporting manual therapies for shoulder problems [9], more studies are needed [10] to determine the most effective techniques [11].

Research indicates that steroid injections may be superior for adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) [12], though not everyone prefers this option. Recent reviews affirm that manual therapy and rehabilitation exercises are beneficial alternatives [13]. We’re continuously monitoring advancements in this field and look forward to updating you on new findings.

This clinic has literally changed my life. I originally went there because I could hardly turn my head: reversing the car was really difficult! The clinic fixed my problem and I now go regularly to keep things in good shape. The annual check is also very useful and it is good to get the reassurance that there isn't much wrong despite my advancing years. I have no hesitation in recommending this clinic to anyone.

I have been a patient of Andrews for more than 15 years. He is always very friendly and welcoming, he takes time to ask you how you are and listens to your concerns. His holistic approach including acupuncture, massage and manipulation if necessary have certainly helped to keep me fit and active.

I live in Malaysia but visit Abingdon every year. I had heard very good things about the Abingdon Chiropractic Clinic but I didn't realise how true they were until I had my first appointment with Andrew today! I was amazed at how professional and at the same time how friendly he is. The appointment didn't feel hurried and he took a wholistic approach. He discovered something about me in a few minutes that I hadn't known in my 61 years!! So wherever in the world you are from, if you're ever near Abingdon and need a chiropractor, look no further than the Abingdon Chiropractic Clinic. I thoroughly recommend it!
